Album Name: Long Creek Memorial Return to Albums

Description: 66 Years ago, on July 11, 1944, the worst air disaster in Maine's history occurred in South Portland. Here are photos of the 1st memorial dedicated to the memory of both the victims and the survivors.

Philip (Phee) Russell (the pilot who crashed) Daughter was present holding a photo of her father she never knew The South Portland Fire Department honor guard and Bagpipe player were present. A bell was tolled for each victim as their name was read and a family surviving member rang the bell. Survivors present of that day so long ago Scarborough Rotary President was also present to represent the club's contribution The etching that is on the side of the monument
