January 10th Meeting

Ember introduced Mike Antonellis: “The 2017 season will be Mike's 13th season as the "Voice of the Sea Dogs."

Prior to joining Portland, he spent his first season in Double-A working for the Erie SeaWolves of the Eastern League. He began his career in 1997 with the Potomac Cannons and has worked in Kane County, Syracuse and Utica.

“Antonellis is the sideline reporter for UMass Football and hosts the UMass Insider Show every Monday during the off-season. His other play-by-play duties include UNE Basketball and Hockey.”

The Ashland, Massachusetts native has been making presentations to area Rotary Clubs. The Old Orchard Beach resident was impressed with the new Old Orchard club and is interested in becoming a member.

He shared some of the innovative promotions introduced by the Sea Dogs such as the annual “field of Dreams” along with Slugger and the Trash Monster. Sluggers along with some of the players visit the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital every 2 weeks. Next year will mark 25 years in Portland.

He noted that the considerably higher prices at Fenway have boosted attendance for the Sea Dogs. David Ortiz’s rehab with the local team created the largest media presence. He described the big shift from newspaper and television advertising to social media. He is busy posting to Facebook and producing “tweets”.
