Kerstin Egenhofer rides in an original 1955 dome observation car while traveling from Boston on the Downeaster to spend a day off of work in the Portland area.
Amtrak is bringing back the  domed rail car that offers panoramic views for riders of the Downeaster. The dome car is available through Sept. 24.
 
Jennifer Crosby of Amtrak Downeaster was the speaker Tuesday, July 31st. She talked about interesting possibilities for route expansions, and bringing back the 1955 dome car.
Ms Crosby talked about ridership trends, interest in seasonal route to Rockland, and expansion to Lewiston-Auburn.
 
The Downeaster is operated by Amtrak under contract to NNEPRA and is one of 15 State supported Amtrak routes in the country. Per this agreement, NNEPRA reimburses Amtrak to provide the equipment, train crews, Portland ticket agents and reservations services to support the Downeaster.
