February 9th Meeting
 
Rick Murphy introduced Kevin Welch, Residential Substance Abuse counselor, Milieu Coordinator at Day One residential in Hollis. Day One is the only adolescent facility addressing substance abuse in Maine.
 
They have another facility across the river in Buxton for girls. They are licensed for a combined total of 13 between the two locations. In addition they have another residential facility on the campus of Good Will-Hinckley which is licensed for 14. It is for males only.

Kevin introduced a 16 year old (name withheld) who proceeded to keep our riveted attention as he described the events and attitudes of his life that led to his addiction, non-stop for 15 plus minutes!  
 
Carolyn Wyman, Program Manager, Residences at Hollis and Buxton described how they enable the residents to make their own choices  to help them achieve their personal goals. A long Q & A session concluded the program.
