Scarborough Superintendent of Schools Dr Entwistle Guest Speaker

February 24th Meeting

President Candy introduced Dr. George Entwistle, Scarborough Superintendent of Schools. He noted that he had been Superintendent 4 years and managed to pay us a visit each of those 4 years.  That fact triggered an open invitation to consider membership!

 

 

Tonight, he described the Business Council relationship along with reviewing Scarborough Schools  goals:

  1. Create an environment of world-class teaching.
  2. Promote safe, emotionally supported, meaningful  relationship building.
  3. Develop skills for engaged citizenship locally and internationally.
  4. Connect with local community.

 

They will continue to pursue these goals despite suffering from a 32% decrease in State and Federal  funds.

Council of School & Business Partners

 

  • Build understanding of needs of schools  & Business.
  • Strong correlation between economic development & school involvement
  • All Freshmen to visit SMCC  to learn about various trade career paths
  • Sophomores to visit USM / UNE in June to learn about various  career academic paths
  • Seniors career exploration: job shadowing. Practice job interviews

 

Dr Entwistle would be very happy if we could provide 15 2 hour job shadowing opportunities. In addition, a few volunteers to participate in the job interviewing process would be appreciated.

 

Ember Earle who happens to be business partner board member will coordinate our club’s efforts.
