Scarborough Town Councilor Shawn Babine was the guest speaker on March 3rd.

March 3rd Meeting

After discovering that Cabela’s was booked with paying customers, Rick Murphy allowed the club to meet at his office. A cozy venue along with pizza produced a relaxing atmosphere for Shawn Babine’s very comprehensive assessment of the current council’s activities. However, he emphasized that he was expressing his opinions and not necessarily reflecting the Town Council.

He was introduced by President-elect Phil. Shawn is serving his third-not contiguous term. Having just spent 3 years in Indianapolis, he was happy to be back in Scarborough having established Babine Enterprise LLC a local small business consulting group.

He began noting that Scarborough had transitioned from urban to rural. He quoted Charlie Cogan’s recent report that the town needs a new mindset noting income inequality, aging work force, and population stagnation.

He enthusiastically explained his proposal for a town guaranteed micro loan ($50,000 and under) that Saco & Biddeford Savings Bank is offering for small business. He detailed the many new revenue plans circulating in Augusta. He cautioned that Scarborough could lose $1,100,000 educational funding along with losing revenue sharing.
